THE WEATHER IS COOLER. MOST FOLKS THINK CARRIAGE ANIMALS ARE OKAY. THINK AGAIN.

Consider: Pulling the heaviest loads in the U.S. Charleston is swamped with tourists who believe
(wrongly) that this charming antebellum City would never allow animals to be abused for the
sake of tourism (wrong). Long hours and heavy loads will be carriage horses’ life for the holiday
season in a City that cares mostly about tourist dollars.

Looks like a new fleet of carriage horses have arrived in time for the holidays. Wonder what
happened to the tired horses of summer? Think they are at some bucolic pasture resting?
Mmmmmmm……Think again. Think auctions where the fate of these animals rests with buyers
of all sorts…many of whom are “meat buyers” buying horses to be shipped to Mexico for
horrifically cruel deaths in slaughterhouses.

OUR ADVOCACY:
Our “Day of Action” scheduled for April is forming. We have a committee working on a protest
march, calling out the Mayor and City Council to address their cruel ordinance, encouraging the
entire Charleston citizenry to show their outrage at this outdated and we think, inhumane
tourist entertainment. If you would like to join us in planning this event, let us know. It will take
all of us to make for a successful event and the follow-up to force elected officials to be
convinced that it’s time to move to humane entertainment.

OUR NEW WEBSITE!
Check out our newly redesigned website. Full of great information. Tell your friends. Use our
website information when reaching out to elected officials and to your neighbors about the
issue.

GIVING TUESDAY
Every year a special day is carved out for non-profits to highlight their work and to ask for
donations. Why give to Charleston Carriage Horse Advocates?
We are an all-volunteer organization so no money is spent on staff. We purchase billboards,
bumper stickers, banners, pay a consultant for our robust social media presence, giving these
voiceless horses and mules your voice. We depend entirely on donations from you to help us.

Your donation to CCHA is tax-deductible to the fullest extent of the law.
Please, please consider a donation for the carriage animals. We do this work out of love and
humanity. Please help us help these animals. Thanks.
